Rich and Rappin’

This past weekend I drove the lofty five hours across Georgia and into Alabama all to see Lord T and Eloise, rap’s favorite aristocrats, perform at the Bourbon Street Bar in Auburn.

The show was excellent, better even than I had hoped. Everyone had a great time, there wasn’t a still body in the house. I even got over my extreme Chorophobia and danced the night away (completely void of rhythm of course).

Lord T and Eloise, along with MysterE got down and dirty in front of a projected screen displaying photos of fellow aristocrats, mansions and distinguished ladies.

My friends and I got the chance to meet Lord T after the show and he’s a very charming fellow I must say, generous too. He and Eloise threw cash out into the crowd like it was candy.

Sarah, the one responsible for my obsession with Lord T and Eloise, sadly could not make it. She was there in spirit though and I called her a great many times and held my cell high in the air, like an idiot, so she could “get down”.

For those of you who will be lucky enough to attend SXSW this year, make sure you check out Lord T and Eloise. There is nothing short of a good time with these guys.

Sarah! I wish you had been there.

I Found Heaven Back In The Day

I was working in the Savannah office today and a coworker, Libby (the most fun you could ever have balled up into one person), took me to lunch at a place called Back in the Day Bakery on Bull Street.

Let me tell you…they had the best cupcakes I have ever had. I mean their cupcakes rival Sugar Sweet Sunshine’s in NYC, and that’s hard to do! Ellen DeGeneres, AOL and The New York Times all agree…Back in the Day Bakery has some of the best cupcakes you will ever scarf down.

I opted for the “Chocolate Heaven,” being the chocoholic that I am. Moist chocolate cake with creamy chocolate frosting and chocolate sprinkles pilled high. Trust me, it was heaven. If you’re not into chocolate they’ve got quite the variety of flavors, including: lemon coconut, double dipped chocolate ganache, red velvet and carrot cake to name a few.

Is your mouth watering yet?

Under The Sea

Turkey is exploring the last frontier.

Plans are underway for an underwater hotel in Istanbul, Turkey. The new hotel is sure to make a splash in the travel industry.

The seven floor hotel is set to open in 2010 with as many stars as it has floors. The multi-million dollar project is the work of Tanriverdi Holding of Turkey.

All of the hotel’s rooms will have sea views of the Bosphorus Strait. They are also planning for restaurants and exhibition halls in the underwater hotel.

The underwater hotel trend is beginning to make waves. Another project in Figi is underway as we speak.

I’m just hoping they play The Little Mermaid’s “Under The Sea at check in!

The Queen City

Recently, I made a trip to Charlotte, NC to visit some friends from school. My friend Sarah is currently working for Elevate Magazine in Charlotte. Elevate happens to host events nearly every weekend, so Sarah requested that I join her for one.

I decided I’d go for the Mardi Gras booze cruise on Lake Norman. Which wasn’t a difficult decision, needless to say.

At any rate, the event consisted of a pre-party at The French Quarter in uptown Charlotte where we met up with Beau, a good friend of mine from Auburn, whom I hadn’t seen in nearly five years. Then a ride on the drunk/party bus to the lake, where we then hopped on a yacht complete with DJ, bar, jumbalaya, and all the attractive singles you could ask for (which Charlotte is famous for, apparently).

After the drunk bus brought us back to our cars Sarah, Beau and I hit up the bars (Grand Central to be exact), where I probably had one too many cocktails and embarassed myself on the dance floor.

Upon leaving the bar the hunger pangs that come along with a long night of alcohol consumption kicked in so we scoured the city in search of fatty food. Much to our dismay there weren’t many places open. We stopped at a Jimmy John’s and were broken-hearted to find it had closed soon before our arrival. BUT, we did find something very interesting. A backpack in the middle of the road. Beau fetched it and we took a look inside. Much to our surprise it was a bag o’ porn. I mean really, who leaves a backpack full of porn in the middle of the road? We left it where we found it. Honest.

If I remember correctly we found a Jack in the Box. I ate a burrito, well at least the tortilla. (haha, Sarah!)

It must have been close to 3:30 a.m. when we finished our “midnight” snack. By that time we were all a bit too tired to drive home. We thought it would be a good idea to check into a hotel for the night. We must have made Beau walk into at least three hotels and ask for rates. I’m sure he got quite the inquisitive look as he was donned in 10 strings of beads and had his jack and coke in hand. The hotel idea proved an unsuccessful venture so we sucked it up and drove the 30 minutes to Sarah’s house in Rock Hill and immediately fell asleep.

All in all it was a great time, one of the best. Charlotte most definitely tops my list of favorite cities, well perhaps still second to Boston.

Can’t wait for my next visit!
